KMart doubles again!

Rumor is that the next Kmart double coupon event will be January 4-9. The downer though is that you can only double coupons that have a face value up to $1 instead of $2 like before. Sadness. I have noticed that Kmart tends to have higher prices so I don't know if I will be participating.

more CVS coming to iowa??

I was just in our Principal Pharmacy, which is a CVS talking about have my prescriptions mailed as opposed to picking them up on site. He was telling me how much I can save (50%!!!) and then mentioned that it will be even better when Iowa gets more CVS pharmacies.

Yes that's right! It sounds like more CVS will be coming to Iowa. I'm not sure when, but he assured me that it was happening.

Good Blog

I kind of forgot about this blog Budget Help$ and then happened upon it last night. That's where I found the Kashi coupon. There is also a $1 off and 2 Nabisco crackers coupon among other deals. Check it out.

Kashi Cereal Bars

Just found this coupon for $2.00 off Kashi soft baked cereal bars. Not sure how much the bars are, but $2.00 off one box is a pretty great coupon.

Grocery finds this week

I found a couple of good deals when grocery shopping this week.

Target:

TGI Fridays frozen snacks - on sale for $1.84. There is a $3 off coupon (scroll down the page to the "t" section). Make $1.16!!

Lipton Tea - various ones on sale. I got the Lipton to Go. It was on sale for $2.00. There was a $0.60 off coupon from the paper and combine this with $1.00 off Target coupon. There are other teas that are less than $2.00 so you could potentially get it for free.

Ocean Spray CranEnergy - on sale for $2.50 for either a 4-pack or a large bottle. There were $1.00 off coupons that could be printed awhile ago. I don't think they're available anymore, but if you got them back when, then you're good to go. Pretty cheap energy drink.

Walmart:

Hunt's tomato sauce - on sale for $0.36 for the small cans. Use this $1.00 off 2 coupon to make a little bit of money. (I have a fear that this may not be a coupon that is printable anymore, so you will only be in luck if you printed this one previously.)

Ortega taco seasoning - costs $0.58 per packet. There was a $0.75 off coupon in the paper a little while ago and I believe it is getting close to expiring. This would give you both seasoning packets for $0.41. Not too shabby.

Kmart double coupon week

Okay Iowa ladies, most of you know that our Kmarts are not doubling coupons this week like many other Kmarts in the nation. We (central Iowans) may be in luck though. According to the Kmart on University Ave. in WDM we should still be able to get double coupons this week. My advice would be the following:

1. Print off this page of the Kmart circular from Joliet, IL
2. Print off the email I received from the WDM Kmart's store manager stating that they would honor the deal/advertisement.

If you would like me to forward you the email from the store manager just email me or leave a comment on this blog.

Weekend Deals

Did a little shopping this weekend. Stopped at Hy-Vee and picked up some more cereal. I was able to get 7 boxes of cereal for slightly under $7! You can find $1 coupons for Kellogg's cereal at the Slick Deals site listed over in the side bar.

Also made a spur of the moment stop at Walgreens and picked up some razors, used the $3 coupon in the Nov. easy saver catalog + a $2 coupon I had so the razors only cost me $.99! Also picked up some air fresheners with 2 B1G1 coupons = free! And not pictured in the candy bar I picked up b/c I had the munchies. Got out of there for about $2.

Kellogg's Cereal for $1

HyVee is having a sale on Kellogg's cereals. They're $2 a box. There are mutiple coupons on sites like coupons.com and couponbug.com (link on sidebar) that have $1 off any Kellogg's cereal. I haven't gone yet, but it should be a good deal. I'm heading there tonight.

KMART Customer Friendliness

For the few that ventured to K-Mart on Thursday and were meet with the best customer services ever. (Tongue in cheek). Fear no more!!! I wrote my first complaint letter (email) ever. Melissa is such a bad influence. Well, we will all be getting "FREE" gift cards in the mail from the Manager at the Kmart store we went to. By the way, the managers name is STEVE, and if you have any trouble at all when you go there, just ask for him. He even gave me his direct email if any of you need anything. SM3447@searshc.com. He was extremely nice and apologetic. I think the poor weathered lady I had will no longer be working at Kmart. WOW, now I have even done my first post on here!!

KMart Double Coupon Buys

The KMart Double Coupon extravaganza wasn't as much as I was hoping for, but I did get some free stuff. This was my first double coupon experience, and the disgruntled cashiers didn't do much to make it a happy checkout experience, but the shopping part was a lot of fun. Here's what I got:

KMART - O MY LANDS!!!!!

I had heard that some KMart stores were honoring the double coupon deals even if they weren't on the "list". I just called the KMart on University in Clive and THEY ARE HONORING THE DOUBLE COUPONS!!!! WHOOO HOOO!!!! Here comes some free and/or nearly free stuff. I am planning a trip tomorrow and I can hardly wait. If you haven't heard about this promotion, a good blog is Money Saving Mom. You can go to KMart's website to see their flyer and see what kind of deals there are. The deal is from October 15 - 18. Not a ton of time, so don't miss out. I think it might be a good idea to call the local store before heading over. It sounds like it's somewhat hit and miss as to which stores are participating.

I can hardly contain myself. I'm on a coupon high and have caffiene jitters. This is great!!

Some Target & Wal-Mart finds

Yesterday my husband got sad about all the Kashi cereal that we have. He said he just can't eat it every day. He really really likes Life cereal, but it's expensive so I haven't been buying it. We also had run out of syrup so he wasn't able to enjoy any of the Kashi waffles that we had purchased. We were out of eggs. His breakfast time just wasn't making him happy. I fixed that problem today.

Target

- Life Cereal on sale 2 for $5. There is a $1.00 off 2 boxes of Life from the coupon flyer in the Sunday paper.

- Grapes are on sale for $1.00 per lb. Target has a $1.00 off at least 1 lb of grapes.

- TGI Fridays skillet dinners are on sale for $6.00. There have been $2.00 off Target coupons in the Sunday paper.

- Coke Zero is on sale for $2.75 for a 12-pack. There are $1.00 off coupons.

- Cheeze Its are $2.89 and there are $1.00 off Target coupons.

- Cascade Rinse agent: the Home Made Simple book has a coupon for a free 8 oz. bottle. I couldn't find that size at Wal-Mart, but Target has it.

Wal-Mart

- Green Giant Steamers are on sale for $1.20 - 1.23. There are $1.00 off coupons and here.

- EZ Mac individual cups are on sale for $0.75. There is $1.00 off 2 coupon.

- Northwoods Syrup is $1.64 and they have $0.75 instant coupons on each bottle has one on it which makes this $0.89 syrup. Mark and I have had this brand before and we really like it.

- Macaroni Grill dinners are supposedly really good and I've been waiting for a sale on these. The best price I find is at Wal-Mart. They are $3.50. And there is a $1.10 coupon.

- Dutch Country Bread has been on rollback for some time now. It's $1.68. It's really good bread and it doesn't have any high fructose corn syrup.

I'm back at Walgreens

I took a two week hiatus from Walgreens while waiting for my gift card to come. It finally did yesterday with almost $60 on it, so I figured out what I wanted to purchase. And here it is. Can I tell you how much free stuff makes me smile inside. Not all of this was free, but that's fine. It was still a super great deal and I needed the stuff that I actually "paid" for.
This was the first time that I did multiple transactions. I don't know what the rules are, so I just brought my first purchase to my car and then went back in for more.
So the first transaction was all that Soft Soap body wash. It is currently on sale for $3.49. There are $1.00 coupons you can print. These are a little tricky though. I ended up with 4 of them. Then there is a $1.00 off coupon in the Easy Saver book that will go towards each of the bottles. You get $10.00 register rewards when you buy 5. So I paid $9.50 with my gift card and got a $10.00 register reward. FREE!!!
Then for the second transaction. This one wasn't quite as sweet because I got stuff that I wanted. Here's what it all is:
Dove Chocolate bars are on sale for 2 for $3.00 (normally $2.39 each). You can use the coupon in the Walgreen's flyer to buy one, get one. Then I got $1.00 off coupons from a nice lady at Target one day and used those, but allegedly there are other $1.00 off Dove coupons floating around out there. So those were $0.40 total.
Then there is a coupon in the Walgreens flyer for buy one, get one envelopes for $0.99 so I hooked that up and got 2 boxes of 40 envelopes.
The Gillette shampoo is on sale 2 for $10. There are $2.00 off coupons that came in some flyer in the paper some time. And then these are also rebate items that I will get $5.00 back on. Total spent was $0.99 for 2 shampoos for the hubby.
Then for the big purchase. I really like Swiffers and we were in need of refills. The refills are on sale for $3.49 right now, which is actually a pretty decent price. I had a couple coupons from the Home Solutions book. $1.00 off any two refills and then two $0.50 coupons off one refill. And then by purchasing 4 of those items, I got $5.00 in register rewards. I was able to use $10.00 of register rewards from my first transaction. And then I will get $5.00 rebate for the shampoo. So it wasn't completely free, but I think I got a really good deal on Swiffer stuff ($1.75 per each Swiffer item I got) which makes it worth it to me.
This may have been confusing...because that's how I am. You can always ask questions if you need more clarity. I'm just happy to be back at Walgreens and having successful shopping there.

Deal at Old Navy

Hello! Just got an email from Old Navy that from September 19-21 you can get 20% off and free shipping if you use the promo code BFF. It is their Best Friends Weekend. You can also take a friend to the store and then tell the cashier the code as well and get 20% off. I just browsed through the kids stuff and there were a lot of great deals to maybe get stuff for next summer's wardrobe for $2.99, then take the 20% off of that. Not bad! So check it out if you like to shop Old Navy!

Wal-Mart Muir Glen- watch out!

I have a saga to tell of my trip to Wal-mart last night to pick up more tomatoes...but I should type it at home as opposed to work.

I do want to warn you though - last night the tomoatoes were marked $1.14/can on the shelf but rang up $1.27. Danger.

Fareway made me sad today

I think I'm done shopping at Fareway. I went in there because they had 2 things on sale which I also had coupons for. Of course, it's me so I picked up a few other things too. Anyway, when I got to the checkout, they told me that they're not taking internet/printed coupons anymore. I returned the items that I had coupons for, but ended up getting the other few items because they were things that I needed to make dinner tonight. It made me sad. If only Fareway would see how they win by having coupons. I still bought other stuff. But now, sad to say, I am not going to shop at Fareway. If they don't want my coupons, then I don't want them.

South Beach Bars at Walgreens

Today brought me to Walgreens yet again. They tempt me with their $10 off a $40 purchase. Today wasn't as sweet of a score, but one thing that I thought was a pretty good deal was their South Beach bars. They are on sale for $2.50 per box. And if you get $15 of Kraft or Nabisco products, you get a $5 rebate via Walgreens. There are $2 off coupons off of the bars. We now have a stock of 6 boxes. Like I told Mark, we won't be going hungry any time soon. And our 1/4 of a cow is coming this Sunday. We definitely are set.

Caution: Last time I used this $10 off $40 purchase, my awesome cashier guy rang up this coupon after Walgreens coupons and before manufacturers coupons. I was hoping that would be the case today, but I had a rule follower cashier who rang it after all the coupons. I ended up having to get chapstick to get up to $40 and it was buy one, get one, so now I have about 4 extra chapsticks if anyone needs any.

Kashi at Target

I'm not sure how long they're doing it, but Target will give you a $5 gift card for every 4 Kashi products you buy. Right now their frozen waffles are $1.58 so you can get these waffles for $0.33 per box after you figure in your $5 Target card (which has to be used at a later transaction). This is pretty sweet. You can also get their cereal which is on sale for $2.75 per box and after figuring your Target gift card, this is like getting it for $1.50 per box....or you can use the $1 off the Go Lean Crunch cereal making this an even sweeter deal. Now go rock it!! Mark and I ended up hooking up 12 Kashi items. We are set.

Help

Alright my ladies. Let me know in the comment section what sites you frequently check for coupons and what money saving/coupon/deal blogs you read and I will post them off to the right so they are easily accessible.

They are just Giving stuff away

If you haven't checked out or heard about the various deals you can get at Walgreen's right now, I highly recommend that you look into it. Walgreen's is becoming my favorite store.

This week (so far) I have gotten free Chex Mix, made $7 and got 3 bottles of Robitusin , and got free Crest Pro Health mouthwash. I think that Money Saving Mom is a great place to find out about these deals, but I've recently started checking Mom's By Heart and she seems to know what's giong on in the Walgreen's world.

Wal-Mart - Suddenly Salad

Did you guys know Suddenly Salad is on sale at Wal-Mart for $.94? I used a couple leftover coupons and picked up 3 boxes. I was at the Altoona Wal-Mart, but I assume it would be the same at others. End of season deal or something...

The magic of vinegar

This isn't exactly a "deal" found at a store, but it could save you a lot of money of cleaning products. I have been trying to be more "green" at our house. We try to only use the reusable shopping bags (does everyone use theirs at HyVee? 5 cents off for each bag you use!), we recycle, and we are even switching over to cloth diapers for our 9 month old (my husband was a hard sell on switching, but now every time he uses a cloth diaper he gets excited and says, "That is one less diaper in a landfill")

Anyway, I have heard from several sources about how vinegar is such a good cleaning product. So I Googled it the other day and found this website with a lot of different ideas for using vinegar. In fact, there are 1001 ideas. The site is called simply vinegartips.com. Who knew distilled white vinegar had so many uses. Not I. I admit I have not tried any yet, but am excited to as soon as my other cleaners run out. I'd love to hear if anyone else has tried some of the tips and what worked for them.

A Few Fareway Deals

I checked out the Fareway flyer yesterday and headed to the store to see if the deals were true. Here's what I found:

Jolly Time Popcorn is on sale for $1. There's a $1 off coupon.

Green Giant Steamers are on sale for $1.25. There's a $1 off coupon here. You just need to watch out for this. I thought all the varieties were on sale, but it's not true. It may be that just the plain vegetable packs are the ones on sale.

Ever since I got the sample of the True lemon packets, I've wanted more. (They totally won.) I finally found them at Fareway. There were $2.48 but if you got the sample, they sent you a $1.00 off coupon.

Of course, I had to hook up the Blue Bunny ice cream, so I got $1 off $2.48. I like free, but I can handle spending $1.48 on a container of great ice cream.

And I actually stopped at Wal-Mart too (I'm addicted to shopping with coupons) to see if I could use this Vlasic $1.00 coupon. I did and got a jar of jalapeno slices for $0.58. The rumor that the Macaroni Grill pasta dinner things were on sale isn't true. I was looking forward to hooking some of those up for free, but no.

I've come to a conclusion since all this price checking and couponing thing started. I don't think any one store is cheaper or more expensive than the other (Aldi might be the exception). Each store has some good prices on some items and then higher on others. I think the goal is to get things on sale or just know where the best price is.

Free Des Moines Register

For anyone who isn't already familiar, I wanted to let you know that Kum & Go gives you the Des Moines Register for free when you get gas. Going to get gas on Sunday at Kum & Go has now become a ritual for my husband and me. I love getting the paper and all those coupons for free.

Mindy's Walgreens deals

Alright ladies. I had a good score today. I was cruisin' with my shopping cart around Walgreens and an employee told me to check out at the fragrance counter b/c she had some coupons I could use on my Chemistry brand hair stuff. Sweet, hope that doesn't throw me off too much since I was trying to stay as close to $40 as I could. Well I get to the register, she is ringing me up and I realize my wallet is missing and hope it's in the car. She was super nice & not annoyed I had to run to the car. I come back to find my total quite lower than I anticipated.

Here is how my receipt reads:

  • Crest Pro-Health (actually our toothpaste of choice!) $3.79*

  • Walgreens Acid Controller $7.99*

  • L'Oreal Advanced RevitaLift Anti-Wrinkle $12.36*

  • Revlon nail color $4.79*

  • Chemistry brand hair stuff $7.99*

  • Purex detergent $3.19 (bringing my total to $40.11)

  • $10 off $40 purchase -$10

  • Purex mfg coupon -$.50

  • Chemistry coupon (from nice employee)-$3.00

  • Chemistry coupon (from nice employee)-$1.00

*free after rebate

Total spent in the store (without tax): $25.61
Total of expected rebates: $40.61 (36.92 + 10% gift card bonus)
Correct me if I am wrong but that is $15 worth of overage!
This makes me love Walgreens!

The Results...

Whew. I think you can count this one as a success. It was a little rocky at first. I started at the West Des Moines Walgreen's and the casher guy wouldn't give me the new Easy Saver booklet. He said they didn't hand them out until September. I knew that wasn't true, so I left and went to the Ankeny Walgreen's. Ha. I win. Here's the breakdown:

Puff's Tissues: $1.39 - $0.50 (Walgreen's flyer coupon) = $0.89

Walgreen's Acid Control: $7.99 - $7.99 (WG Rebate) = $0.00

Dawn Dish Soap: $1.99 - $1.00 (WG flyer coupon) - $0.50 (manufacturer's coupon) = $0.49

L'Oreal Advanced RevitalLift Anti-Wrinkle: $12.36 - $12.36 (WG rebate) = $0.00

Nivea Men's Body Wash: $4.99 - $1.00 (manufacturer's coupon) - $4.99 (WG rebate) = -$1.00

Edge Shaving Gel: $2.99 - $1.00 (WG coupon) - $0.75 (manufacturer's coupon) = $1.24

Chemistry Conditioner: $7.99 - $7.99 (WG rebate) = $0.00

Revlon Nail Care: $4.79 - $4.79 (WG rebate) = $0.00

Crest Pro-Health (our favorite toothpaste): $3.79 - $3.79 (WG rebate) = $0.00

LypSyl Honey Berry LypMoistureizer: $1.99 - $1.99 (WG rebate) = $0.00

Purex Laundry Detergent: $3.19 - $0.50 (manufacturer's coupon) = $2.69

Gallon Milk: $3.19

Super Sweet Walgreen's Coupon: $10 off $40 purchase = -$10.00

Results: After rebates, I will have come out exactly even because tax was $2.46. I feel good about this because I got some things free even without the rebates (milk, laundry soap, shaving gel, tissues, dish soap) I just wanted to make sure that I hit my $40 so that I could use the $10 off coupon. Remember that this $10 off coupon is only good Friday and Saturday. I LOVE FREE THINGS!

I did debate on the anti wrinkle cream, but ended up getting it after they were out of a rebate item that I was planning on getting. I guess I'm 29 now, so I should keep those wrinkles under control.

And you'll have to forgive me. I don't always remember where my manufacturer's coupons come from. I'll try and be better at that.

Walgreen's Potential

Not sure if anyone else is as excited as I am about the potential savings that Walgreen's could bring. Right now they have a $10 off a $40 purchase coupon http://www.walgreens.com/hotbuys/default.jsp?ec=hn583_getcoupon and it is between the August and September rebate programs so you can cash in on both. If you haven't checked out some of the scenarios on some of our favorite coupon blogs, I implore you to do so. I am going to put my list together tonight and hopefully it will work. I'll let you know.
